Daily life in Preschool

A day designed so your child
feels at home.

In our Early Years, the day isn't measured by the clock. It's measured by moments: arriving, playing, eating together, resting. Every child has their own rhythm, and the school adapts to it, especially during the first cycle.

The school day runs between 9:00 and 17:00, with staggered start and finish times by age and lunch included. Our kitchen is right inside the Preschool building, so children eat with their own teachers in a familiar, relaxed setting. The youngest ones rest when they need to, not when the schedule says so.

Throughout the day, they move between inquiry-based projects, free play, physical development and early routines in English as the language of instruction. Optional after-school activities extend the day with music, sport or robotics if your family wants them.

Every Friday, you receive a video of your child's week.
Teachers film and edit throughout the week to send families a weekly video summary every Friday: the games, the discoveries, the small breakthroughs. It's a real window into your child's day-to-day life, especially valuable when they're still too young to tell you about it themselves.
Why choose Base

In La Moraleja since 1962.
The same project, getting better every year.

Base opened as a nursery and school in La Moraleja in 1962. Over six decades, the school has adopted what works: the International Baccalaureate, neurodidactics in the classroom, leading maths methodologies. What hasn't changed is the way we accompany families, and the stability of the team that makes it possible.

Continuity with evolution

A project that has been evolving since 1962 while staying true to its character.

A stable teaching team is what allows a methodology to mature over time. And a mature methodology is what turns the confidence of a 3-year-old into the independence of an 18-year-old ready to chart their own course.

Neurodidactics
A 2-year-old learns by touching, asking questions and feeling safe.
Every teaching decision starts with how the young brain actually works. Curiosity and emotion are the foundation of learning.

Most new families come recommended by current ones. Younger siblings enrol here. Former students, when they become parents, bring their own children back.

From what age can my child start at the nursery or kindergarten? +
From 12 months. The Preschool stage at Base covers ages 1 to 6 in two cycles: first cycle (1–3 years) and second cycle (3–6 years). Each age group has its own dedicated space, with a maximum of 12 children per class.
What are the school hours? Are the extended hours free? +
School hours are staggered by age: ages 1, 2 and 3 from 9:00 to 16:30; age 4 from 9:15 to 16:45; age 5 from 9:30 to 17:00. Extended hours are free and optional: from 7:30 to 9:00 in the morning and from 17:00 to 18:30 in the afternoon. They're included in the tuition fee, at no extra cost.
How does English immersion work from 12 months? +
From 12 months, English is the language of instruction across all subjects except Spanish, Maths, Music and Physical Development: projects, science, art and daily routines.

We use the Jolly Phonics methodology for phonics, with native or bilingual teachers specialised in early childhood. English is lived as the everyday language of communication from the very first day.
If my child starts in Preschool, can they stay at the same school through to Bachillerato? +
Yes, and this is one of the key differences between Base and a standalone nursery. Children who start at age 1 can continue at the same school through to the final year of Bachillerato, where they can choose between the Spanish Bachillerato and the IB Diploma Programme.

The transition from Preschool to Primary happens naturally because your child already knows the school, the spaces and the team. In Secondary and Bachillerato the school delivers the MYP and the IB Diploma Programme, and the PYP is in the process of implementation in Preschool and Primary.
How many children are in each class? Is there a psychologist in Preschool? +
The maximum class size is 12 children. The school has a Guidance Department that includes a psychologist and a certified speech therapist who support children across all stages, including Preschool.
What is the admissions interview like? +
The process has three steps: an initial conversation with admissions (by phone, form or in person), a campus visit with your child to see the spaces and meet the team, and a family interview. The interview is a conversation to get to know each other, not an assessment. 2026–27 spots are open, with limited availability in the first cycle (ages 1–3).
What does the tuition fee include? Where can I see the full fees? +
Tuition includes textbooks and school materials, free extended hours (7:30–18:30), one-day excursions and cultural activities, the psycho-pedagogical orientation service and Saturdays with families. Dining, transport and after-school activities are optional services. You can view the full fee breakdown for 2026–27 on the fees page →
Does the Preschool have its own kitchen? +
Yes. The Preschool building has its own on-site kitchen with capacity for 85 places. Meals are prepared by the school's own cooks under the supervision of nutritionists, and weekly menus are shared with families through the school's internal platforms. Adapted to any allergy, intolerance or special dietary need. Your child eats with their own teachers, in the environment they already know.
Where is the school? Is it easy to reach from Alcobendas and La Moraleja? +
The school is at C. del Camino Ancho, 10 · 28109 Alcobendas (La Moraleja), with direct access from the A-1 motorway and private parking. Convenient for families in La Moraleja, El Encinar de los Reyes, Soto de La Moraleja, Sanchinarro and San Sebastián de los Reyes. For those who need transport, there are school bus routes across central and northern Madrid. Routes and stops may vary depending on demand each school year.
