About us · La Moraleja, Madrid · Since 1962

Over 60 years educating
with the same spirit.

Private, non-denominational and co-educational. Inspired by the Institución Libre de Enseñanza. IB World School across all stages.

Who we are

A private, independent school
in La Moraleja, since 1962.

Base International School is a private, co-educational, non-denominational and independent school with full autonomy over its educational project. We draw our inspiration from the Institución Libre de Enseñanza: critical thinking, intellectual freedom and mutual respect.

Everything we offer is brought together on a single campus in La Moraleja. We are part of Affinitas Education, an international network of over 20 schools.

We are a medium-sized school: large enough to offer first-class resources, small enough for every student to be known by name.

What we believe in

Three convictions that shape
how we teach.

These are decisions we make every day about how we treat our students, how we engage with families and how we prepare our teachers. They are lived, practised and felt in the daily life of the school.

01
Education is built on connection, not hierarchy.

Since our founding, we have championed an approach that is horizontal, dialogue-driven and respectful of each student's rhythm.

The teacher is an educator in the fullest sense: they accompany, guide and build genuine bonds. When they know a student over many years, education changes in nature.

The result: a staff retention rate of 94%. Average teacher tenure: 12 years.
02
Every student is a person before they are a learner.

It's right there in our educational charter: we see the student as a person, far beyond their role as a learner.

This has real, practical consequences in the team that supports them every day and in the individual attention each student receives from Preschool through to Bachillerato.

The result: more personalised attention than UNESCO recommends. A full in-house team of educational psychologists and counsellors.
03
Critical thinking and intellectual freedom, inherited from the ILE.

We are a liberal, non-denominational and independent school. Open to all political, religious, cultural and professional perspectives.

We develop students who are able to question, doubt and make their own choices. This tradition translates into concrete, everyday practices across all stages.

The result: UNESCO Model United Nations (UNESMUN), classroom assemblies and structured debate from Primary onwards. A tradition inherited from the Institución Libre de Enseñanza.
Our vision
"To create a dynamic, international learning environment that ensures all our students are prepared for future success."
Our mission
"To build a vibrant community through a modern, dynamic model of education."

Base International School, an Affinitas Education school

Since 2024, we have been part of Affinitas Education, an international organisation that supports schools on their path to educational excellence. It respects the identity, culture and values of each school, while providing resources that raise quality and consistency of service.

What the network brings us:
  • Sharing of best practices between schools with a common educational vision
  • Access to resources, technology and innovative tools
  • Ongoing professional development programmes for teaching staff
  • Safeguarding and child protection as a shared, cross-cutting priority
  • Real international connections for students and teachers

Base is still Base: liberal, non-denominational and independent. The network strengthens us. It doesn't rewrite us.

Open doors for families

The Base community
is lived as a family.

At Base, families are part of the project. They have a dedicated person who supports them from day one, and regular opportunities to come into the school, see what goes on inside and speak directly with the people who make the decisions. That is how a community is built.

"The values I have are thanks to the school. I will always carry a little piece of Base with me, because it is the reason I am the person I am today."

Now that you know who we are,
come and see us.

An hour on campus is worth more than any website. A personalised visit lasts approximately 60 minutes: we show you the facilities, you meet the team and we answer everything you need to know. At your own pace, with no pressure at all. Most families who visit leave with their decision made.
